Overcompression

Dunnow what limiter your using but its too harsh!

the kick blows away the rest of the music :o
Also adding glitches is not mastering! thats composing or remixing

I liked the Idea and some of the filters are nicely done but try sticking to your own tracks man I'm sure you'll get more attention that way then this.

FuNDaMeLoN responds:

Sorry about that - it was just the crappy DAW i was using to make... remix this song. Thanks for the review.

Lovely

Yup this one is kinda really good as well.
The whole composition is really nice!

the mix is not bad but at some points it feels a bit too middy. maybe a little less mids will do wonders.

And about fruity loops. well its a sequencer and everything is said. In my opinion you rely on external plug ins a lot when using that program in comparison to some more advanced sequencers. But whatever works right :D?

Spine therapist

LLAAPPSSEE responds:

Thanks man. Lovin' your reviews.

Yeah, the mix is potentially muddied. It works for what I was going for though, I feel it counteracts the scratchy percs. Accidents are muddy.

Heh, I'm not sure what your saying about FL. However, yes, i do rely on external plug-ins. I cant remember the last time i actually even bothered to look for sound in FL, haha. No thanks : P

I've been wanting to get Abelton Live!

GO AWAY!

leave NG and never come back :p

Third track I hear now and I just saw you made a massive music library in one year. Did you make all that in one year? cause that is kind of hard to believe unless you do this for a living :)

Anywayz. Not gonna give it a ten cause something seems missing. Some parts of the track sound like a background track to something. but that something is not there.

Also I found a flaw in the mixing ( FInally) haha. There is a lot of low mids int he mix. If you were to put an EQ on the master bus and put a so called Smile EQ on it. I think it will sound a bit more delightfull. Try taking down 500 Hz for about 2 or 3 dB with a Q factor of 0.5. That should do the trick.

Spine therapist

LLAAPPSSEE responds:

Haha. Aw, leave NG? I probably should.

I did not make that all in one year. Most if it yes. Some of my earlier submissions are from 2 - 3 years ago.

Something missing? Not sure what. Its just supposed to be a light and airy song. Minimal and such.

As far as the mix goes - i actually have a remastered version of this up. Check it out : P

I appreciate your in depth reviews - its really awesome. You seem to know a lot more about mastering then i do, too. I'm going to look for this 'smile EQ' as well. When you say i have a lot of low mids in the mix, heh, im not even quite sure what you mean. I understand what low mids are, but i'm not sure how it effects the product? Check out the remaster and see if i fixed it!! : D

(i went back and listened to the remastered version - i think i know what you mean - i just probably cant state it as clearly as you do, haha. I think it may be fixed. The low-mids muffle up the track a bit, yes?)

I dig it haha

Linkin park.... not really :p

Venetian snares,
Squarepusher,
scotch egg,

Those are the guys you remind me off

The glitchy sound is lovely and it sound really professional. And I am even impressed by the mix. that does NOT happen often. A lot of people are good at composing but suck at mixing but this is done very nicely.

There is one thing though, I pressed 10 untill I hear the synth after 3 minutes. A sort of squarewave simple synth. In my humble opinion it drags down the quality of the track. The filter and so on you used on it are very nice though. but the sound of teh synth itself is not to my liking.

Srry about your fav piano player :)

Spine Therapist

LLAAPPSSEE responds:

Hehe. Thanks to someone for really saying some of my influences for once : P

Love'em.

I'm glad you like my sound man. Even more that you think it's got a professional sound to it. That makes me feel pretty good. I've been working a lot with mixing tracks. Its very important.

Heh heh, didnt like the synth, eh? I guess some people will like it and others wont? Now i'm worried if you listen to some other songs. I've been using that synth a good deal. Mixed a bit differently however.

Yeah, i'll have to get over it. E.S.T was a really amazing trio. : (

take it easy, man. Thanks for listening.

thats a first

Your doing a very good job bringing this kind of quality on NG. Or maybe your doign yourself short but hey:p

About the mix though. Your drums fade away in the guitar its wall of sound. Either compress them more to get a more punchier sound. or maybe a little more volume on the overal drum group is not a bad idea either.

The weird synthy sound at the end somewhere. Its cool but its not... know what I mean ? :p its a bit akward lets just keep it to that.

also your bas guitar could be more punchier. Maybe add some around 700Hz in the EQ for more finger detail.

I can ramble on for another 500 pages but I think I said the most important things :D

Keep it up, you got skills.

Hyper-Freak92 responds:

I don't know what synthy sound everyone keeps talking about. The only synth part written was a string synth. Is that the part you mean?

The wall of sound does perhaps swallow up the drums a bit, but I think compressing the drums to give them more punch would intrude upon the sound. It's a lesser of two evils.

As for the bass, I actually do agree. When this gets played live, it'll be EQ'd to come through rhythmically a bit better. I may add that to the list of mixing changes to do before the album release.

Thanks for being legitimately constructive. I love the guy who 7'd me because Funk isn't his favorite genre of music (Idiot.)

Thanks for the review, and I look forward to more from you!

~Wes

Thanks for actually being constructive

Nice one

I like this style,

ow for the advice ... yeah uhm Do not master! Its a very hard process that only true mastering engineers with masterng gear can preform. Just put a limiter at the end to boost your level and maybe a delicate EQ to make it a little less muddy. The hi hat is not bad could maybe use some EQ as well. Intro is ok. Conclusion is uhmmm well a bit sudden. Drum fills especially the snare is sometimes very loud that it clouds the rest. and the piano lower tones are in extreme legato. maybe make it a bit more tight.

if these are your roots. Go back as fast as you can :p

Marks-a-lot responds:

OOOooo, YES, these are the things that I wanted too hear! thank you so much for the review. Hopefully if I can get this song down it will be a hit.

Rayman Raving rabbits :D

sound like some thing from the game raving rabbits.

Did you add some kind of extreme compression? sounds 'fat'

not really my style but the overal quality of your work is alright!

Oh and thanks for the review earlier!

Scrogginaut responds:

Chow i jsut submitted another song I did awhile back called STATE MISC http://www.newgrounds.com/audio/liste n/194816 its a way different style of you wanna check it out

Not a fan -_-

Hip Hop... not my thing :p but Since I am the head engineer of a Hip hop Studio I have to give some credit :p

Did you really put a robot FX on the chorus or is it just phasing really bad :P?

also your delays are a bit dodgy:p they dont sound like part of the beat.

your one of a kind on newgrounds I supose!

mseemercury responds:

i record at home and i dnt know what you mean dodgy and the chorus is two different voices

You neeeeed reverbbbbb

Love the glitches in your drums! big fan of that. if you did that yourselves though.
However you neeed reverb on at least the piano. cause this sound like a cellphone right now:p

klic responds:

Thanks, I did do the glitches myself, i also added reverberation as was your suggestion.

Audio & Music is pretty much all I care about!
